Jo Cairn

“I like being creative because it pauses my life, in a good way, and makes me forget my responsibilities. I feel like I can drift off to another place.”

Jo joined ArtStudio01 by invitation, after realising that as a carer, her own space as an artist was important to her and she found it gave an outlet for her creativity after ten years of not painting.

Jo paints emotion. Influenced by ‘Art Nouveau’, ‘The Impressionists’ and ‘The Pre-Raphaelites’, Jo’s work is colourful and flowing.

A lot of her work are portraits, which are painted either as an emotional response to the subject or the energy they give off. She finds inspiration in photos of family and music stars, whose music she listens to while she paints.

Jo waits for the emotions to arise in her before she starts painting, and hopes that people will feel an emotional response to her work.
